No front closure, definitely fits like a shrug rather than a cardigan. Even though I am a pretty consistent M in women's tops, I found this to be a tighter fit than I had hoped; if you want a kind of cozy loose fit like in the model photo, it will work best for XS or S. If you want a tighter fit like the mannequin, it will work for M or L.
